Description:

This is an evergreen native shrub or small tree that usually grows to 15 feet in height and spreads 15 feet. It is native to many parts of California, especially the southern territories. It has white flowers, which bloom in during the summer. The berries which ripen in the fall and winter are bright red. Butterflies love the flowers and birds feast on the berries in winter.
