Description:

Native to South Africa, this semi deciduous tree has showy orange flowers in early spring. In coastal areas it can hold its leaves during a mild winter. Very fast growing, and needs plenty of space. This tree can reach 65' tall and as wide if allowed free reign. Light gray trunks and limbs with spines. Needs frequent pruning to keep the tree a manageable size. Limbs are brittle and can break easily.

Optimal Soil:

Sandy loam but but will tolerate most soil types.
