Trachycarpus fortunei is cold hardy so can tolerate frost. Prefers shade in hot, dry climates. Will even tolerate coastal conditions as long as it is protected from direct sea breezes.

Description:

Native to China. The trunk of this palm is covered with matted gray/ brown fuzz resembling gorilla fur. This fuzz falls off the lower portion of the trunk when the tree becomes more mature. Unusually, the trunk of this palm is usually thicker at the top than the base. Each palmate leaf and stem together can measure 6 feet in length.
